Augustine Holtzman
From Bloomingpedia
Augustine Holtzman (August 28th, 1808 - April 8th, 1882) was the proprietor of a woolen factory in northeast Bloomington. Born in Germany, Holtzman came with his family to the United States at age 8, but did not arrive in Bloomington until 1845. There he built a small log cabin and kept his family over the first winter. Employed at Thomas Hardesty's factory for some years, he eventually bought it out and expanded the factory, forming the firm of A. Holtzman & Son in 1856.
Mr. Holtzman married the former Mary Brown in 1833, and they had 12 children.
