Bloomington Friends Meeting
Bloomington Friends Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (also known as Quakers) was started in the 1950s, and in its early years met in the old School of Education building on the IU campus (now the William and Gayle Cook Music Library). In 1967 it purchased a small house on Moores Pike, and added a large meeting room. Initially the meeting was affiliated with Western Yearly Meeting, but in 1992 added an affiliation with Ohio Valley Yearly Meeting, and that is now its only affiliation.
The meeting has thrived over the years, and has been a source of inspiration for local social reformers. Friends who have been active in the community include Haines Turner, Lib Buck, Warren Henegar, Hank Swain and Lee Jones. The meeting created a website in the late 1990s, and this site has additional information about the Meeting.
