David Banta

Judge David Banta (1833-1896) was Dean of the Indiana University Law School. He earned an undergraduate degree from the university, and was principal of the Monroe County Female Seminary for a year. First elected to the Indiana University board of trustees in 1877, he served as president from 1882 to 1889, when he became the dean of the law school.
A native of Johnson County, Banta wrote prolifically on local and state history.
