David Nosko
David Nosko is from Indianapolis, IN. He received a Bachelor of General Studies degree from Indiana University Purdue University - Indianapolis (IUPUI) and an Associate of Communication Arts degree from St. Louis Community College-Meramec. He lived in Bloomington from 2001-2012.
David is the former Director of Programs at the Community Justice & Mediation Center (CJAM) 2008-2012, where he also served as a Victim Offender Conferencing Facilitator and Community Mediator. His other community work in Bloomington included founding, coordinating, and facilitating the Monroe County Youth Council from 2011-2012, which is a nonpartisan youth-led organization, and Co-Founding Theatre of the People (TOP) in 2008, which is an inclusive nonprofit community theatre that served more than 150 local performance and theatre artists of all abilities. David is a former Bloomington Playwrights Project (BPP) Ensemble of Artists member (2006-2009) and a former member of Monroe County Civic Theater (2007-2008).
David's artwork includes theatre producing, playwrighting, directing, acting, scenic design, and collage art, and his Bloomington directing credits include Bertolt Brecht's "Mother Courage and Her Children", Franz Kafka's "The Trial", Karel Capek's "R.U.R. - Rossum's Universal Robots", Euripides' "Medea", August Strindberg's "Miss Julie", Henrik Ibsen's "An Enemy of the People", Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass", Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol", an original adaptation of "Little Red Riding Hood", and the world premiere of “Troubled Dreams: A Kafkollage” that included several Kafka short stories adapted for the stage.
He also Founded and co-produced the BPP's Inaugural "BloomingPlays Festival" (2007) and he produced MCCT's "Directors' Symposium XII" (2007) and "Directors' Symposium XIII" (2008). David and TOP's other Co-Producing Artistic Director Hannah Moss provided an eight-week drama therapy program as "Artists in Residence" at Stone Belt Arc during summer 2009, and they both produced and directed Stonebelt's 2010 "I Am You" production, which included monologues by 14 Bloomington performance artists with various developmental disabilities.
David uses pen names for his playwrighting, which has included several short plays produced for TOP, BPP and MCCT. His most infamous one act play, "Peace on Terror" by Albert Powell, was produced by TOP at the Indianapolis Theatre Fringe Festival (2008), and his most infamous 10-minute play, "F##k You, Pay Me" by Albert Powell, was produced by TOP at the Inaugural Hoosier Short Play Showcase (2011).
David is also a freelance journalist and his reporting and writing appeared in the Indiana Daily Student (IDS) newspaper under the name David A. Nosko, where he worked as a General Assignments Reporter, City & State Editor, Columnist, and Photographer, and Culture Week newspaper among other local publications. His IDS story "Hoeppner Hopes Fans Can Cultivate Aura" won third place in the "Best Sports Story" category at the 2006 Society of Professional Journalists' annual awards banquet, and several of his stories were picked up by the Associated Press and Washington Week Student Voices among other national news outlets. David is a former Daily News Correspondent for WFHB Community Radio for South-Central Indiana, where he wrote news reports for the WFHB Daily Local News program, collected "Person on the Street" interviews, and developed Feature-length community interest pieces.
He is a 2006 graduate of the City of Bloomington Citizens' Academy, and his other volunteer work included serving as a Board member for the Asset Building Coalition of Monroe County (ABC), providing after-school drama workshops at Girls Inc. of Monroe County and Pinnacle School, and serving as an Advisory Committee member for the Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District.
