Dawn Johnsen
Dawn Johnsen is an Indiana University law professor and Bloomington resident since 2002. In 2008 the Obama administration recommended her appointment to head the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel. The nomination was not acted upon by Senate. She was nominated a second time in 2010, but withdrew her name from consideration.
Professor Johnsen joined the IU faculty in 1998, after serving in the Justice Department from 1993-1998). She has also served as the Legal Director of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (now NARAL Pro-Choice America) as well as working for the American Civil Liberties Union Reproductive Freedom Project.
Johnsen is currently on the board of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy and is co-chair of the ACS Issue Group on Separation of Powers and Federalism. She is married to mayor John Hamilton and has two children.
