Ellen Sears Marks was a 30-year-old Bloomington woman who was murdered and dismembered between Sept. 15-20, 1986. Ellen was a former graduate student in English at Indiana University who had left her studies in 1980. At the time of her murder Ellen was living an alternative lifestyle in a simple wooded structure that was set in a wooded lot on the corner of Summit Street and W. 10th Street. Robert Lee was convicted of her murder in 1987 and sentenced to 60 years in prison, but he served just 25 years and was released in 2012.
