Fred Fess

Fred Fess, 1848-1938, was a lifelong resident of Bloomington and the man for whom Fess Avenue was named. He owned approximately an acre of land in the neighborhood of Fess, Henderson Street, 3rd Street, and Atwater Avenue and a large house at 317 S. Fess.
A member of the Red Men and the Odd Fellows, Fess was a tinner in the Allen Hardware store for 40 years and spent much of his later years raising flowers. He is buried in Rosehill Cemetery.
