Herbert L. Bass

Herbert L. Bass was an Indianapolis architect active in the early 20th century. He initially practiced as Herbert L. Bass and Company. After Lynn O. Knowlton joined the firm it became known as Bass & Knowlton. Bass was a prominent architect who designed post offices in several large cities across the eastern United States. In Bloomington Herbert L. Bass & Company were associated with three projects:
- The Ulysses H. Smith Residence, 1907, 804 E. Third Street (no longer standing)
- Arbutus Flats, 1911, 414-418 E. Kirkwood Avenue (no longer standing)
- William Johnson Residence, 1913, 517 N. Walnut Street
Additionally, Bass-Knowlton produced a sketch for a chapel at Valhalla Cemetery. The project had financial difficulties and the chapel was never built.
