Hoop Pole School
From Bloomingpedia
Hoop Pole School was a one-room schoolhouse that was built sometime around 1880 and was destroyed by fire in 1922. The name apparently refers to hickory trees in the area that could easily be bent into hoops to go around barrels. (The trees were shipped to a Martinsville barrel factory.)
In 1922, two boys who were students at the school set it on fire and it was completely destroyed. The boys later said they were tired of school and did not like the teacher.
Hoop Pole School was on Burma Road.
