Among these “housetraurants”, the Runcible Spoon ( located at 412 E. 6th Street) is by far one of the most intriguing.

The spoons authentic style of cooking attracts people from all over. (Danielson) These delectable, home-cooked meals are available seven days a week from 8A.M. to 11P.M. Meals range from coffee and pastries to eggs, bacon, and toast, and even chicken and rice if you want it.
What is a Runcible Spoon? This is a good question. “It is the spoon that the owl and the cat use to eat with in the poem “The Owl and the Pussy Cat” says Danielson. There are more interesting facts about this particular “houstraurant”. For example, for a number of years, there were fish in the bathtub of the restroom at the Spoon. “One of the employees years ago was leaving for vacation. He needed someone to watch his fish for him, so he turned to founder and owner Jeff Danielson. Jeff wasn't sure what to do with the fish, so he filled up the bathtub. The employee must have had a really great vacation, because he never came back, and the fish just remained in the bathtub from then on.” Danielson explains. Ironically, that odd fact contributed to the Runcible Spoon's bathroom being nominated as the 7th best bathroom in the world, according to Travel Channels Top Ten Best Bathrooms in the World. Take advantage of Bloomington's unique houstraurants and try them all, but be sure the Runcible Spoon is the first to try. And don't forget to use the bathroom!
