IU Men's Soccer
History
The Indiana University Men's Soccer program attained varsity status in 1973 with Jerry Yeagley as head coach. The first match was a 5-1 victory at Notre Dame. The team completed their first varsity season with a 12-2 record. In spite of this successful first season, the team did not receive an NCAA Tounament bid.
Coach Yeagley, in 31 (1973-2004) seasons as coach of the IU Men's Soccer team compiled a record of 544-101-45 (.828). During the Yeagley years, IU Men's Soccer won 6 NCAA Championships ('82,'83,'88,'98,'99,'03)and made 16 College Cup appearances.
In 2004, Mike Freitag took over as Head Coach and the Hoosiers won their 7th NCAA Championship in his first year.
In 2010, Todd Yeagley took over as Head Coach. The team won their 8th NCAA championship in 2012.
The Soccer Hoosiers play on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium (cap. 6100). The first match at Armstrong Stadium was played on September 13, 1981, a 2-1 overtime victory over San Francisco.
The IU Men's Soccer schedule generally runs from late August/early September thru late October/early November with the Big Ten Tounament and the NCAA College Cup following the end of the regular season.
