Jonathan Hinkle
Jonathan Jefferson Hinkle son of Anthony Jacob & Barbary (Seitz/Sides) Hinkle, was one of the earliest settlers of Monroe County. Born in Lincoln County, North Carolina on March 10th, 1802, he arrived in the county around the age of 13.
After serving an apprenticeship with Austin Seward he bought some land and built a farm, on which he lived for the rest of his life.
He married Catharine Lentz on November 30, 1828. To this union 11 children were born: [Delilah (Hinkle) Paul], Elizabeth (Hinkle) McElroy, Mary (Hinkle) Paul, Margaret A. "Maggie" (Hinkle) Kerr, Eliza (Hinkle) Vannoy, Catharine (Hinkle) Payne, William Jefferson Hinkle, Isaac W. Hinkle, Jonathan Marion Hinkle, John Henry Hinkle, & James Madison Hinkle.
Mr. Hinkle died on June 23, 1882 and is buried in Bethel Cemetery.
