Manatron
Manatron is a Michigan-based software company that provides software for many Monroe County offices, including tax software for the Auditor's office and equipment for the treasurer's and recorder's office as well. The company has been involved in Monroe County for more than 15 years, and had to patch its application to become Y2K-compliant in 1999. The software went through a major upgrade in 2001, which caused some minor discrepancies in property tax records that nevertheless resulted in delays distributing money to various government offices. It was unclear whether the issue lay in software or data entry errors in the office of then-Monroe County Treasurer Pat Jeffries.
In 2003, an unclear sequence of events resulted in some erroneous data entry errors from the 1990's being entered into a property assessment database, causing a loss of several million dollars of property tax revenues.
Manatron provides software for the vast majority of Indiana counties, and often takes heat for software glitches when problems arise. However, it should be noted that all software has bugs, and it is unlikely that Manatron has any more bugs in their systems than any other similarly-sized company.
