Mies van der Rohe Building

In February 1952 Pi Lambda Phi fraternity announced that it would build a new house at Indiana University in Bloomington based on plans drawn by Mies van der Rohe. The project was never completed, but has inspired the design of a new home for the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design. The new project was approved during the Board of Trustees meeting on August 9, 2019. In the agenda it was described as:

'...a new, two-story, approximately 10,000-gross square foot facility at the northwest corner of Jordan Avenue and 7th Streets on the Bloomington campus. This privately-funded facility will be inspired by a fully documented 1952 architectural design by renowned modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe of a proposed IU Bloomington campus building, never ultimately constructed. This internationally significant design, created by Mies van der Rohe and his associate Daniel Brenner, will serve as a home for the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design and provide lecture, workshop, student collaboration, administrative and office program spaces in an inspiring and iconic facility.'

Architects for the project are Thomas Phifer and Partners. The new building was dedicated on June 17, 2021.
