New York Store
The New York Store was Downtown on The Square for many years in the 19th century.
An ad in the Indiana Student, Feb 24, 1868, reads:
LOOK OUT FOR BARGAINS!
All ye readers of the Indiana Student take notice that the Place to Get Bargains is at the NEW YORK STORE where they have just received one of the Largest Stocks ever brought to the city of Bloomington and Bought Since the Great Decline in New York And they propose to give all the students and friends advantage of their purchases. Do not forget the place. Next Door below Jas. Small's Hardware Store College Avenue. C. P. TULEY & CO., Proprietors
In 1881 the store became one of the first in the city with an automatic cash receiving system, but it closed by 1882. The Weekly Telephone reported:
Next week Nat. Barnard, the proprietor of Leonard's mills southwest of town, will open a grain and feed store in the room last occupied by the New York Store.
