Patterson Drive
Patterson Drive is a road running north-west/south-east on the near west side and south side of Bloomington. It mainly connects Third Street with Second Street and Rogers Street. It turns into Grimes Lane after it intersects with Rogers. It is often used to bypass downtown Bloomington in order to access the near south side, or vice versa to access the west side from the south side.
Named after Pat Patterson, a former city public works director, the road was originally known as the Thomson Truck Route. It was built along a CSX railroad corridor in 1998 to serve Thomson Consumer Electronics, but that company left Bloomington before the project was completed.
Some city officials felt that greater consistency would be achieved by renaming Grimes Lane to Patterson Drive west of Walnut Street, but many potentially affected businesses objected to the change and it never took place.
