Phi Mu Alpha
Phi Mu Alpha is a collegiate social fraternity for musicians in the United States. It was started in the 1898 at the New England Conservatory and has grown to be the largest and most recognized music fraternity in the world.
Ironically, Indiana University having the largest school of music in the world, has not had a strong chapter of Phi Mu Alpha. It was called the Gamma Tau chapter at one point and was connected with Ball State University. But it is now listed as inactive in the Phi Mu Alpha national directory. There have been small attempts to revive it, the last known in 1996. It is especially interesting considering that the national headquarters of Phi Mu Alpha is located in Evansville, Indiana.
People involved in the past with Gamma Tau
