Talk:Bean Blossom Creek

From Bloomingpedia

Name discussion

Well, searches reveal a lot of sites spelling the water feature Beanblossom Creek and the town Bean Blossom, this difference may be important. I didn't find results from the USGS or Department of the Interior, but my Google-Fu is sometimes weak. Can anyone else weigh in with an authoritative citation? Chris Eller 21:54, 30 May 2008 (EDT)

I'd say that this could be used as reasonable authority. Also, now that I think about it, the busses that say Bean Blossom community schools I think have a space in it (here is that). What's cool is that this article comes up first when you search for Bean Blossom Creek. I think we must have some clout with Google for that to happen so easily. -- Mark 22:44, 30 May 2008 (EDT)

Well, two pages at the USGS (that's United States Geological Survey) differ in the spelling/spacing:

WTF?! Way to be accurate and consistent. Chris Eller 22:37, 1 June 2008 (EDT)

Bean Blossom Creek

According to:

The Bean Blossom Creek, sometimes written as Beanblossom Creek... Bean Blossom Creek is thought to be named for a soldier in Ketchum’s Army who drowned or nearly drowned trying to ford its floodwaters between 1810 and 1812. Historical records indicate that there were at least two individuals named Beanblossom in the army at that time. It began to appear on maps as Bean Blossom Creek (with the twoword spelling preferred) by 1812. In this document, we use the two-word spelling.

And the Bean Blossom Watershed Project http://www.bbwatershed.info likes the two word version, as well.
