This is impossible to research, but I think there are two schisms of this chain, and I wonder which one this is. There were originally some real CiP non-chain restaurants in Oahu, owned by locals, and at some point, Jimmy Buffett Inc started the chain that operates on the mainland. The two are not related, except I think Buffett sued the ones in Hawaii. Or not, I can't find a good site.
I can say I've eaten at the original real one in Honolulu and a chain one in Las Vegas, and the Hawaii one was way, way better. -Jkonrath 21:25, 12 October 2007 (EDT)
