Talk:Herman B Wells
From Bloomingpedia
I want to verify a piece of information before moving this page. I was taught that Herman Wells did not have a middle name. When enrolling at IU he was "forced" to have one and he chose the letter B, this is not an initial. The page should properly be named "Herman B Wells". Can someone corroborate this for me before we move the page? Chris 17:29, 2 March 2006 (GMT)
- I can confirm. I believe it was his mother's name. Beatrice? -Chrobb 17:44, 2 March 2006 (GMT)
- I was slightly off: "His middle name is just "B" not followed by a period, in tribute to the tradition on his mother's side of middle names beginning with the letter b" -Chrobb 18:21, 2 March 2006 (GMT)
- Yes- Simply B with no period- I majored in Journalism Eduction, and I recall a professor devoting several minutes to the discussion of then-chancellor Herman B Wells and the correct spelling of his name- I don't recall exactly how then it pertained to any other topics of discussion- but oh well, it's only been thirty years or so....-[User Nancyewilson]
- The middle name is in fact just B with no period, which can be confimed in his autobiography, Being Lucky -atdilts
