It was actually more than just a simple name change. Unfortunately, I can't find any old articles talking about it, and I left before it happened. From what I vaguely remember, UCS was just the Bloomington campus organization, and each branch campus had their own organizations. Under the merger, the IUPUI and other campus IT departments were part of the Bloomington one, forming UITS. There was some other component that I'm forgetting that was outside of UCS that was also included in the merger. Anyway, any real information would be great, as I don't remember enough to make a factual edit. Jkonrath 15:15, 27 August 2006 (EDT)
- Ok, so this gives further evidence that UCS should be a seperate article from UITS. -- Mark 15:48, 27 August 2006 (EDT)
FWIW I have been digging around trying to find old UCS/BACS info on the web. A lot of UCS stuff was search/replaced with UITS after the change, but I think a lot of issues of the "UCS Monitor" are still at the library and probably floating around UITS somewhere. There's also this, which is interesting: http://www.indiana.edu/~uitssur I think the UCS/UITS reorg happened in either 1997 or 1998, I'm not sure of the details. --Jkonrath 13:32, 27 September 2012 (EDT)
It was 1997. Here's a 2017 article about its 20th anniversary: https://news.iu.edu/stories/2017/10/iu/releases/17-uits-anniversary.html --Jkonrath (talk) 19:19, 31 October 2020 (EDT)
