Telephone and power lines
From Bloomingpedia
Telephone lines and power lines in Bloomington used to run above ground on utility poles (sometimes called telephone poles). These utility poles where taken down on the Indiana University campus sometime between 1979 and 1996 and the wires were run underground. It is unknown whether lines downtown where ever on poles, either way, most power and telephone lines in central Bloomington run underground.
There are also some dedicated data transfer lines located around Bloomington for various purposes like internet connections. The city started making a habit of laying fiber optic cable to each utility pole replaced in recent years.
