The Bloomington Alternative

Founded by journalist and progressive activist Steven Higgs in 2003, as of Fall 2005 the Alternative is distributed every other week in and around Bloomington, and also posted on the web at http://www.bloomingtonalternative.com/ . The paper contains articles written by nationally-known writers as well as local ones, including Gregory Travis's column, Civitas.

The Alternative was preceded by the alternative weekly the Bloomington Independent (formerly the Bloomington Voice), which went belly-up circa 2002 after financial difficulties. The Alternative makes no bones about its bias, as the tagline reads, "Committed to Progressive Social Change and Journalism."
