Works Progress Administration

The Works Progress Administration was a federal program designed to battle the Great Depression. The program provided government employment for workers on public works projects in Bloomington.
In the county, the program had an office on the 400 block of Walnut Street, but moved to 341 South Madison Street in 1936.
Projects of the program in Bloomington include:
- Indiana University Auditorium
- Limestone benches and monuments in Lower Cascades Park
- A drainage ditch running between 4th Street and Kirkwood Avenue
- The WPA Sewing Project
- Municipal Ordinance Project
