- William Johnson's saw mill near Cross Roads is destroyed by fire.

The W.A. Campbell farm, south of Bloomington is sold to James Bruner of Orange County.

The 16-room hotel near the Hunter Quarry is completed. It is the largest frame building in the county.

- 22nd - A race riot breaks out in the primarily African-American area known as Bucktown. William Meadows received his death wound from a stone thrown by Jane McAfee.
