Bear's Place Ale House and Eatery was located next to the IU campus at the intersection of 3rd and Jordan. It is known for its good food, good music, and frosty drinks. Bear's Place also hosts the long-running Comedy Caravan, Ryder Film Series, Karaoke, and live music. There is also a well equipped entertainment room available for private events and parties.
Bear's Place has been a Bloomington tradition since 1972.
It has the longest running one night comedy show in the country, which even made the Guinness Book of World Records. Monday nights, two shows, 7:30 and 10:15, tickets are available by credit card reservation, $4.00, (812)339-3460. Saturdays have also been added to the line-up. Tickets are available through the number above and, for the Saturday show, are $7.00.
Every Thursday afternoon is home to a unique Jazz show, Jazz Fables, featuring such greats as David Baker, Dominic Spera, Al Cobine, great I.U. faculty, and many great invited guests. Every Thursday night, Jazz Fables is followed by Karaoke night, which is usually sold out.
The Ryder Film Series was hosted by Bear's each Saturday afternoon, Sunday night, Tuesday night, and early Wednesday. It shows films that are on the cutting edge. Every Wednesday night, Bear's offers some local alternative music.
Bear's Place offers a great menu and drink specials, which include the world-famous Hairy Bear and his younger sister, the Hairy Beaver. Bear's Place also sells tee shirts for $12 each.
Bear's Place closed during the pandemic on February 11, 2022[1], and the building has been bought by the IU Foundation[2].
