Ernest Butler

Ernest Butler 1913-2003 was a pastor of the Second Baptist Church in Bloomington for 43 years.
He was a 2003 inductee into the Monroe County Hall of Fame on which his plaque reads "A longtime leader and advocate for civil rights and 43-year pastor of Second Baptist Church in Bloomington."
He fought for the poor, advocated for civil rights and fair housing, and was a champion of the less fortunate and sat on countless Bloomington government boards and commissions. The Rev. Ernest D. Butler Park on West 9th Street is named for him.
