About Kevin

Kevin Isbister Makice (b. May 15th, 1968, Colorado as Kevin McGrew Isbister) attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, graduating in 1990 with a degree in physics and an interest in theatre. Accepted into DePaul University's MFA program, Kevin left the school after one year and got married on August 8, 1992. Starting in 1995, Kevin began studying internet programming. A freelance programmer under the company name, Real World Creations, Kevin left the world of self-employment to take a job with Indiana University in 1999 as Web Services Coordinator for the Kelley School of Business. Until 2004, Kevin telecommuted from Bloomington, Indiana to TicketsNow.com, an Illinois-based event ticket brokerage company, serving as the primary internet developer.

On April 2nd, 2009, his book on the Twitter API by the publisher O'Reilly was released.

Current projects

Currently, Kevin is pursuing a doctoral degree in Informatics at Indiana University's School of Informatics. He previously received a master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction Design (HCID) from the same program.

Projects include:

• online community design for parents
• wiki interactions and process in online collaboration
• pervasive educational game to improve awareness and behavior regarding obesity
• block input devices for small children (to replace a computer mouse for children's games)
• conceptual design to address needs of gangs and "broken window" communities
• an empathic scheduling system to promote authentic intereaction with senior citizens ("mPath").
  • mPath won first place in the student competition at the CHI 2005 conference in Portland, Oregon in April 2005.
• a phone-based controller for TiVo digital recorders
• RootsCamp and Politic Exchange

Name Change

In 2000, before the birth of their first child, Kevin and his wife Amy decided to change both of their surnames to Makice. The name is made up of their initials (KMI and AEC) rearranged. As far as they know, the name is completely new. They both now use their original surnames as middle names. [1]
