Monroe County Fair
The Monroe County Fair features events and attractions for people of all ages.
The earliest fairs took place in the mid-19th century. Originally held in Dunn Meadow, fairs were also held at 2nd Street and Walker and at the corner of Vernal Pike and Curry Pike. Later it was moved to The Square, but at some point a lack of space meant the fair became simply a 4-H project exhibit.
In 1946, the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce began sponsoring 4-H, and the fair was held again at the Indiana University fieldhouse on East 7th Street. In 1955 the fair moved to its current location.
While still primarily a 4-H event, the fair also features other attractions such as rides, an antique farm machinery exhibit and a demolition derby.
