Prospect Hill

From Bloomingpedia

Prospect Hill is a historic neighborhood located on the near south west side of downtown Bloomington.

The eastern edge of the district was annexed to the city in 1888. This section is known as the McPheeters Addition. The rest was added to the southwest corner of Bloomington on June 7, 1893. It was laid out on a rounded hill, with Rogers Street, Fairview Street, Third Street, and Smith Street as its borders.

The interior of the neighborhood consisted of upper middle class houses, with worker's cottages in the outlying areas. Representative architectural styles are Queen Anne, Free Classic and Period Revival, and many houses in the neighborhood were designed by John Nichols. A highlight is the Paris Dunning house at 608 W. 3rd Street, built around 1845.
