Smithville
Smithville is a small community in Clear Creek Township, south of Bloomington. It is composed of a three-blocks-by-three-blocks grid of streets; the major streets are Smithville Road (east-west) and Strain Ridge Road (north-south), and Fairfax Road runs along the community's eastern edge. Among its prominent buildings are the Smithville Christian Church, located at Smithville and Fairfax, the Redman's Lodge, a former Masonic hall located at Walnut and Strain Ridge, and the Smithville Post Office, a non-delivery post office (i.e. it only serves post office boxes) located at Smithville and Strain Ridge. The community's former school is located on the eastern side of Strain Ridge south of central Smithville.
Smithville is the closest community to the Joseph Mitchell House, which lies along Ketcham Road west of SR 37. Built in 1835, it is one of the oldest buildings in Clear Creek Township, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
