WTIU
WTIU broadcasts from the Bloomington campus of Indiana University from the IU Radio and Television Center. It was founded in 1969 and is owned and operated by the Indiana University Board of Trustees. A 24-hour PBS member station, it serves 29 counties with over 350,000 households throughout west and south central Indiana.
Over 100 Indiana University students compliment their academic training and develop marketable skills through real-world experience gained by working alongside the station’s professional staff working on local productions, programming and national programs produced here.
Locally-produced programs include local [WTIU Newsbreaks] (weekdays at 5:55pm and 10:55pm) and a weekly magazine program covering local people, places, and events, [The Weekly Special] (Thursdays at 8pm/repeats Friday at 10pm) hosted by Ann Shea and Joe Hren. There are a number of programs currently in production. [The Friday Zone] (Friday at 4pm), WTIU’s own weekly Emmy Award-winning children’s program, features activities and guests including performance and visual artists, scientists, and literary figures hosted by Katie Sullivan. Third House hosts members of Indiana’s General Assembly for interactive legislative forums. WTIU provides other services such as severe weather information, school delays & closings, election coverage and participates in the statewide AMBER alert system.
WTIU also produces [local documentaries] that include Spanning Time: America’s Covered Bridges, Doc Counsilman: Making Waves, Columbus, Indiana: Different by Design, the Emmy Award-winning Sugarplum Dreams: Staging The Nutcracker Ballet, and West Baden Springs: Save of the Century. The most recent series called "Our Town" features local communities such as Bedford, Martinsville, Seymour and Terre Haute.
WTIU can be found on channel 30 through over-the-air analog and digital broadcasts, DirecTV and DISH Net. Bloomington Comcast cable subscribers can find WTIU on channels 5. Those residents outside of Monroe County can find WTIU's channel assignment on their guide or the WTIU website.
