William E. Sullivan
William E. Sullivan (1894? - May 17, 1940) was the owner and founder of Sullivan's in the early 20th century.
Sullivan was born in Salem, Indiana, and received an A.B. degree from Indiana University in 1917. After 18 months service in World War I he returned to Bloomington to work at the Johnson Creamery. In 1925 he purchased the Joe Kadison clothing store on the west side of The Square, renaming it Sullivan's. He also operated a campus clothing firm for more than 10 years.
Sullivan, known as "Sully" was involved in various civic affairs. He was a director of the Workingmen's Building and Loan Association, a vice-president of the Bloomington Kiwanis club, a director of the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, and a scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts. He also served as secretary of the Indiana Retail Clothiers.
Sullivan married the former Mable Johnson and they had one child, Robert Sullivan.
