Cecile Waldron
A lifetime Bloomington resident, Cecile Waldron is credited with jumpstarting the John Waldron Arts Center in 1990 by making a $375,000.00 donation to the Bloomington Area Arts Council. The donation, intended to help fund the renovation of the property which would house the Center, was initially made anonymously. Cecile's identity as the donor was, however, eventually revealed.
An 87-year old Meadowood Retirement Community resident at the time, Waldron claimed that she was no great supporter of the arts. Instead, she made the donation to honor her husband Charles B. Waldron's great grandfather, John Waldron.
Cecile Waldron passed away on November 12, 1992, a month after the Waldron Arts Center was officially dedicated. She has been nominated to the Monroe County Hall of Fame four times since 1994, though she has never been selected.
