This article documents some of the effects of the well known September 11th, 2001 terrorist attcks on Bloomington. it also documents the effects of the attacks on Bloomington residents.

Short-term Effects

People look for signs of what is happening and if it is a local terrorist attack

• On the day of the attacks, people were alarmed when a fire alarm sounded downtown. Approximately 20 people came outside to investigate what was otherwise a normal fire run for the Bloomington Fire Department.
• The Herald Times published a special 4pm edition documenting the events of the day.
• Indiana University canceled classes the following Friday to allow students to attend a vigil.
• The evening after the attacks, there were instances of price gouging at several local gas stations in Bloomington and Indianapolis. Prices rose as high as $4/gallon, which was nearly 3 times the norm at the time. Some gas stations had lines of cars waiting to pump gas.

• Andrew Stoeckley worked on the 42nd floor of Tower 2. He to took a sick day on September 11th, 2001, and was therefore not in the towers at the time of the attacks.
